The story of how RME came to exist is one worth knowing. Bob Morrison joined the Navy as a teenager and picked a training specialty hoping it would keep him close to his family's farm in Mission — it didn't quite work out that way, but what he found instead was a calling in electrical work that would shape generations. That path eventually led to a partnership with Charlie Ross, and from their two last names, Ross Morrison Electrical was born. What Bob and Charlie built together in 1969 was more than a company. It was a foundation that has carried through more than fifty years, two more generations of family leadership, and some of the most complex electrical work in BC.
That legacy shows up in the culture RME has built around it. Generations of family leadership have created something that goes beyond a good place to work — it's a place people choose to build their entire careers. Team members who came in young stayed, grew, and became part of the company's story in their own right. Bruce, hired straight out of BCIT by Bob Morrison, has been part of that story for decades — long enough to have watched the family pass the torch from one generation to the next.
From Rebuild to Partnership
For a company with over fifty years of history, RME's IT infrastructure had grown organically alongside the business — servers, backup drives, and storage systems added layer by layer as the company expanded.
It was a practical solution that worked well for a long time. Then, in April 2024, a serious cyber attack compromised the entire system, including the backups, and left the team facing a complete rebuild from the ground up.
That rebuild marked a turning point in more ways than one. With their long-time IT contact retiring after years of dedicated service, RME found itself navigating unfamiliar territory — searching for a new partner without always knowing exactly what to look for. It's the kind of search that can feel overwhelming, especially when every provider seems to have the perfect answer before they've even heard the question. A referral led Matt to TAVANCA, and the difference was clear from the first conversation. What started as an IT rebuild grew into something more lasting.
