Behind every milestone at Cameray Child and Family Services is a story of connection between children, families, caregivers, and the broader community. In an era of shifting social needs, the organization continues to adapt, guided by a commitment to listen, respond, and create space for growth at every stage of family life.
In our conversation with Jenny Brodie, Cameray’s Fund Development and Communications Coordinator, we explore how the organization has embraced change, strengthened community bonds, and integrated tools that help their mission become more sustainable and far-reaching. From heartfelt feedback from program participants to the trusted support of technology partners, this feature shows how impact is built one relationship at a time.

How Community and Support Grow Together

A Holistic Approach to Family Care

Since 1972, Cameray Child and Family Services has been a vital support system for families in Burnaby and New Westminster. While they are well known for their specialized counselling services, their impact reaches far beyond one-on-one therapy. Today, Cameray’s offerings include everything from early years programming and parent education to community outreach and family support. With programs that span generations and adapt to a wide range of needs, their goal remains consistent: to walk alongside children, youth, and caregivers through life’s most challenging transitions. Whether it’s helping a child navigate a difficult school year or supporting a newly arrived family as they adjust to a new environment, Cameray’s approach is rooted in empathy, expertise, and community connection.

JENNY BRODIE
FUND DEVELOPMENT AND
COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

We had the opportunity to speak with Jenny about how the organization continues to evolve. With over a decade of experience in non-profit marketing and storytelling, Jenny sees firsthand how the organization’s mission translates into real-world impact. She shared, "Our strength is in being flexible and listening closely to the needs that emerge."

As needs shift and grow, Cameray continues to evolve alongside the families it serves. From mental health to emotional development, today’s challenges require programming that’s both practical and deeply human. The team listens closely to community feedback and uses that insight to shape more accessible, responsive services. At every stage, the focus is on creating meaningful, lasting change for those they serve.

Impact You Can Feel

That flexibility and care translate into tangible results. One youth participant shared, "It provided us with something to look forward to — support and a sense of belonging." Others have returned to volunteer, describing Cameray’s programs as life-changing and community-building.

Parents in education programs shared similar sentiments, with one reflecting, “I let her lead more and look at what she’s trying to express.” Another said the sessions gave them confidence they were on the right track. These voices highlight Cameray’s deeper impact, not just addressing immediate needs, but strengthening families for the future.

While Cameray’s focus is deeply human, its ability to deliver services at scale — securely, efficiently, and flexibly — depends on the right tools behind the scenes. From managing sensitive data to offering hybrid services for clients and staff, technology now plays a vital, if often invisible, role in keeping the organization connected and responsive.

Partnerships That Strengthen the Mission

For an organization juggling secure counselling, government reporting, and even virtual testimony, having a responsive and security-focused IT partner it’s essential. Before TAVANCA, Cameray relied on ad hoc support through a single point of contact, which often slowed things down. “Now everyone knows the number and feels like they can get in touch directly,” Jenny explained. In-person visits have also helped staff — especially those who are part-time or less tech-savvy — feel more confident reaching out. That trust has transformed TAVANCA into more than just a vendor; it’s become a key part of keeping daily operations running smoothly.

“The less time we spend dealing with tech issues, the more time we spend supporting families.”

Designed for What's Next

Looking ahead, Cameray is focused on deepening its impact. The team is expanding offerings like digital safety workshops for parents and strengthening settlement support for newcomer families. With growing demand, continued community support is more important than ever. “We’re always listening and adapting,” Jenny says. For those seeking to make a local difference, Cameray offers a powerful way to contribute to lasting change.
